IT’s Monday. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

There seems to be a new, more intense weather volatility in the air this morning. Maybe it is because I am about ready to hang tin on the new back porch, but our luck when it comes to the REAL INTENSE weather North Texas is known for, you know the bad bad stuff, has never wiped our slate clean here at the top of a hill on the west side of what used to be a town and is now a little City. I don’t wish for a scraper storm on my block, but I don’t wish for luck either.

Yesterday marked the introduction of a new “Texas Weekly Fishing Forecast” post here on the site (by Chet Gypt). I will have that sent in to me and will post it Sundays so that you can have knowledge of what tides, moon and weather trends are for the week ahead in Texas fly fishing and fishing. The only reasons I am sticking with it is because it is actually a great piece of information for YOU to add to your fly fishing formula for the week. Take it, like all Texas weather (weather – not tides or moon) with a grain of salt. The other reason is that it is pretty easy for Chet to crank out, compared to what I had to do in the OLD DAYS!

Labor Intense

It was a labor intense weekend. Not only did the framing for the new roof get slapped on, there’s a new dock going up at the Rush Creek Preserve, and I was there Friday to load a lot of the old dock wood to be repurposed in one of the horse barns. That probably weighed in at 1500-pounds, so all-in-all … I’m feeling it. There is a lot more to come about the Rush Creek Veteran’s Event. We are tentative May 3, for the first ever Veterans Outing that includes a fly fishing / fishing tournament currently being organized for Veterans and their families. If you are a local veteran, be sure to visit the page on this site I have set up to for you to learn more about the organizations directly involved with fly fishing and fly tying in Denton County Texas. IT is your first step toward participating in the Rush Creek event.

Divide and Wimper

The handwriting is on the wall. In order to streamline and end the sputtering progress of the Texas Fly Caster YouTube Channel, I am splitting that baby in half. In May, there will be a completely new channel dedicated to the Wholistic Fly Fisher. It’s not by choice, but as a result of the confusion of two diverse topics (confusing the YouTube algorithm) on one channel. It is a painful process that buries a lot of work that went into the original series, but it is past time to fish, and stop cutting bait. Recently, I did have a very big complement about that channel: “For some unknown reason, I feel that the style/cinematography/frankness or whatever you’re doing has changed and I dig it. There is no one in the DFW area that is producing the honest and valuable content you’re making. Two thumbs up!” If you want to check out the other huge segment of labor that happens to provide DFW fly fishers (and Texas) with some unusual experiences, be sure to click on the link in the top of this paragraph, or the link at the menu at the top of the website page! I appreciate any of many things you can add to this adventure – comments, like, subscribe and the new HYPE on YouTube go a long way in THIS world. A tiny bit of digital gumption goes a helluva long way, if you want to know the real truth!

END NOTES

While the weather looks sketchy this morning, it’s still early! The ramping up starts for the LBJ Grasslands Series this week. There is the replacement of my impeller to go through. Looming large is major surgery on the 4Runner, so deep and wide it may take a long time to get that done. I hope you are having good days and have a great week ahead! Please take a look back at that Sunday post – Texas Fly Fishing Briefing for the Week. WHEN YOIU SUBSCRIBE ABOVE, comment here or send me an email. I need to know that box functions properly folks!
