Monday Morning Yo-Yo

This week we ride the weather yo-yo, like the North Texans we are. Starting off a Monday Morning at 28-degrees, on the waning days of a North Texas fall, is unusual. What else should we say about Fall 2025, except it set records and is on the books as the second coldest fall since those records were kept. Those predictions of a neutral winter, neither nino nor nina, are just predictions. With the first day of winter only days away, we may be in for something special … again. Fear not! Temperatures this week are expected to wind back up the string, and reach almost 70-degrees for daytime highs midweek. Enough about the weather Old people!

WEEKEND NOTE: CHECK OUT THE POST ON LLELA BUFFALO ROAMING if you slept through the weekend that was.

Fearlessly Forward

It is a time of settling in to the new Studio 12, aka. the Ice Box, for shooting some new videos for the masses, or what were once masses. And while we’re on the subject of sharing, I have heard from one avid reader that they are no longer getting notifications of new stories hitting this site. This happened because I had earlier sent out fair warnings to reset your password, and if you didn’t your account would be deleted. That is the account HERE that sends you a direct notice of new stories, comments on your comments, etc … SO, I am going to dive under the hood of this well oiled machine, that is almost as old as my Toyota, and try to find registering “boxes” or “options” to start implanting in these posts. If that DOES NOT HAPPEN, or is not POSSIBLE, I will manually send out a registration to YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if I have it.

New “Texas Fly Magazine” in 2026

New to me, using an older website, issu.com, I will be assembling what I consider to be Fly Fishing Guide Magazines on different topics, both short and long. Sometimes my imagination forgets to run away with me, and this was one of those times. So expect periodic Magazines on topics, locations and subjects that are worthy of extended thought and coverage by me and Chet Gypt, , my staff writer here at Texas Fly Caster. Chet stacks ’em deep and sells ’em cheap! And he’s right … most of the time. Social media, like Instagram and Facebook as a means of showing and sharing have run their course (I am glad to consult with you on this topic), so something a bit more real, engaging and without a bunch of nubile T-n-A is just what the geriatric doctor ordered, for me anyway!

Texas Fly Magazine Issue 1 will be about the Blue River in South Central Oklahoma, USA. I have been active, off and on at that fishery, since 2008, and over that time I certainly have accumulated enough information (and that continues today) to warrant a Blue River Issue. That short issue will be wholly and completely dedicated to whatever we can find to print – that helps fly fishers find enjoyment at the Blue River. These magazines will be available for download here, for the first 30-days after they hit the new PAGE, “Fly Fishing Newsstand.” Brainstorming now, I can imagine some of these will be a lot less important than others, as if any of this is really truly important to anyone else but myself … but that’s another story.

NEW TEXAS FLY SHOP GUIDE

Ever wonder where your Texas Fly Shops, the BRICK-and-MORTAR fly shops are located? I created a new page for just one reason, FOR THE LOVE OF SHARING. None of these shops have a website as active as this one you are on RIGHT NOW, and it’s probably true that none of them ever will. I could go into the reasons why a website is more important than ever, for a fly shop, but that’s another one of those stories for another day.

FIND A FLY SHOP NEAR ME – is a Live Google Map, and can be seen navigated online AND in your NAV and Phone.

Thanks for reading this Monday Morning! I am hitting the water paddling today, so I’ll have to cut this one short. Please try the above form. It is INTERNAL, and does not go anywhere else but HERE.
