Monday Micro Adventures Taking Shape
I am starting to wonder … does anyone actually go to websites, this one for example, to read, maybe glean a few facts and enjoy the content anymore? I ask because, these days all I read about is the “death of the internet,” and, “death of websites,” and, “death of social media,” and the list is just like a Texas road that goes on forever. Maybe this party already ended, and I am really that last guy standing – for no good reason?
REGARDLESS
Regardless of the original, fantastic content you find here, there is the shop, PoPs Fly Shop, and for whatever reason, that is worth the weight of the website these days. Sales were brisk last week. They were brisk and quite varied. That, my friends is a good thing, as Martha used to say … before she went to prison, got out and started smoking a lot of dope.

MICRO ADVENTURES
I am always looking for cohorts, in smaller than Roman numbers, to join in on these little adventures that pop up. There are two on my event horizon this week, and they are definitely a factor of the insane weather, which I do not need to bore you with.
MICRO ADVENTURE ONE – LBJ GRASSLANDS
Early in my swirl down this fly fishing black hole, I did take the time to run to the nearby Western LBJ Grasslands to fly fish (Did you know there are TWO sides to the LBJ Grasslands?). The early adventures were hit-and-miss. And they were also charged, with a tinge of danger. This was back in the worst of the meth days, and if you get far enough back into these ponds on the Grasslands, there were the meth heads, tucked up against a stand of trees, cars facing out, windows blacked out, or with sheets over them. The whole thing presented itself as ready to Break Bad at any moment. Are they still there? Surely not.
FIRST STOP will have to be in Decatur, and the National Park Office that is over the LBJ Grasslands. If for nothing else other than a new map, then it is still well worth the stop. My recollection of this particular office is that is especially friendly and helpful. Let’s hope that hasn’t changed over the intervening years!
MOTIVATION
The motivation for the LBJ Grasslands micro adventure is based on all those WSC private ponds I have fished up in Montague and Wise Counties. Those ponds will forever be private, so maybe a Grassland pond across the road, yet another WSC drainage of course, will provide the access sorely needed for the folks who are seeking warm water fly fishing right now.

MICRO ADVENTURE TWO – BLUE RIVER OKLAHOMA
Squander any more time, and I have no one else to blame. Two months of stocking are in the water at the Blue River, and while the catch-and-release area is wrapped in mystery, and I presume understocked, there is still some fun to be had at this beautiful location. I have been assembling a new “magazine” style document just for anyone who wants to fly fish the Blue River, and will probably be publishing that, and possibly a NEW WEBSITE PAGE here – dedicated solely to the Blue River. Two weeks of sick home didn’t help my prospects on the Blue River, and I can feel a shimmy I don’t especially like in my motor, but I will get that taken care of and head up HWY377 to Tishomingo very soon. I do want the worst weather possible to provide incentive to hit the Blue River, because these days, the worst winter weather isn’t that bad – around here – anymore.
MOTIVATION
All talk and no action? Makes Johnny a dull boy. If I had the means, meaning wheels, I would be there every week! I also want to motivate YOU to at least SEE the Blue River. It is a beautiful place, and if Oklahoma has its way, it will be overrun just like BendBow has been screwed. But at least they will have a much more difficult time doing it this time!

LET THE RUN RUMORS BEGIN
With this mild winter, you should EXPECT the rumors of sand bass running in the creeks to start this month. This is not a BOLD prediction, just an early one this year. I for one, do not put any value on these rumors, and yes, you will see false reports and a bunch of video and photos of LAST YEAR’S sand bass very soon. We call that CLICK BAIT. And CLICK BAIT IT IS – baiting you to click on it – thinking you will see something NEW and CURRENT. Forget that shit. Don’t click on it. That was then. This is now.
WHEN YOU SEE the redbuds budding, and the first cranes? This is your GO-SIGN! I will make sure to keep an eye on those two things for us, and keep you looped in this year, as in every past year, on the HOTSPOTS26 text message thread. All you have to do is text me: “HOTSPOTS26” to be in the group text for sand bass, and any other fish finds I have this year. NINE-4-O-Three-eight-0-0-four-O-Ate – and I will add you to the thread. Consider the 25HOTSPOTS thread closed. Get-er-done now, and you won’t miss anything. If you are feeling REAL adventurous, become a MEMBER of my Texas Fly Caster YouTube Channel! That is where you get a jump on new videos, and content just FOR MEMBERS.
Thanks for taking your valuable time to read today! The fact you gave me that time is always appreciated, although never acknowledged enough. If you want to be notified of new posts here, that function has undergone some updating. I am still not sure if it works. Let me know if YOU are or ARE NOT being notified of new posts, and heaven help us, I will dive under the old car and see if I can make it run.
